Bahia Blanca – Infrastructure Works at Port Access

The Bahía Blanca Port Management Consortium (CGPBB) is moving forward with a comprehensive plan to improve road access to the port through a series of repaving and new construction works, fully financed with its own funds. The initiative also includes a proposal to implement a toll-like traffic fee, pending approval from National Highway Administration authorities.

Although final plans and permits are still pending, the CGPBB confirmed that five separate agreements are being pushed forward and that funding is already secured through a trust fund created in late 2023. One of the possibilities being considered is the construction of dual carriageways in some sections.

According to CGPBB President, preparations began last October, but negotiations have been ongoing for several years. The goal is to comprehensively renew the port’s access infrastructure, which is deemed a critical issue, especially in light of deteriorated road and rail networks.

In parallel, the national government has recently announced a large-scale project for the full repaving of Route 3 (northbound, from Cañuelas to Bahía Blanca), including the installation of toll booths—specifically at kilometers 520 (Tres Arroyos) and 603 (Coronel Dorrego)—using a barrier-free “free flow” system. These works will be funded by private sector investments.
