On March 7th, Bahía Blanca was hit by a devastating storm, bringing hurricane-force winds exceeding 140 km/h, intense rainfall, and widespread destruction. Tragically, the storm claimed multiple lives, left significant damage to infrastructure, and caused power outages across the region. The aftermath continues to impact daily life and critical operations—including port activities, as electricity is not yet fully restored and the floodings are still present at some areas.
In the wake of this disaster, the Port of Bahía Blanca remains inoperative as terminal operators assess damages. Flooding has blocked access to the port, making any scheduled maneuvers impossible until further notice.
Additionally, the Coast Guard has suspended all inbound and outbound transit through the port’s access channel due to traffic control equipment malfunctions, preventing proper monitoring. Vessels at Anchorages ‘A’ and ‘B’ remain stranded, unable to move due to the lack of port services.
Further complicating the situation, SUPA (stevedores union) has declared a 72-hour work stoppage, beginning March 10 at 10:00 LT, in solidarity with the official mourning period declared by the Municipality of Bahía Blanca. This measure will affect operations at both Bahía Blanca and Puerto Rosales ports.
Our thoughts are with those affected by this disaster, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.
